Contirod®: continuous copper wire casting plant

The Contirod®® wire casting plant, which has been in operation since 1999, is specially equipped for optimal quality and flexibility. It has a gas-heated Asarco shaft furnace with a production capacity of 30 tonnes per hour. Via an electrically heated series of furnaces consisting of deslag furnace, storage heater and foundry furnace the metal is transferred continuously to a Hazelett Caster, the foundry temperature being held exactly within a range of between 1130 and 1135°C, thanks to the induction furnace concept.
The resulting foundry line runs over a 5-stage pre-rolling mill into a 7-stage end-rolling mill. Thanks to its being equipped with separate drives for each of the rollers, the plant has a high level of format flexibility and can produce the highest quality - the rolling is almost draw-free. Thanks to a wire-drawing mill, MKM has a complete quality concept, from cathodes to finest-wire applications, and can therefore offer its customers outstanding quality at all value-adding stages.
